Have you ever done this?
I have a question. I took Damon in for a checkup yesterday. When we were finished, the doctor handed me a lab slip and told me to take Damon in for some routine bloodwork. I don't think I have ever done this with my other two kids. So now I am thinking, is this something that is necessary? Because taking a 16 month old in to have blood drawn for no particular reason is not high on my do to list. Have any of you done this with your kids?

They usually do lead levels and a CBC to make sure they don't gave anemia or a blood dyscrasia. It is recommended to be done between 9-15 months, I believe. Is it MANDATORY? No, but it is like vaccines in this time of herd immunity: not a bad idea.
routine? really? I can't say that I've heard of that being a regular part of a checkup and I wouldn't want to put my kid through that unless they really needed it. (Of course as I write that, I remember they did a blood draw on Kira to check for anemia, but that was when she had only gained like 3 ounces in 3 months at a time when she should've been growing.) If it was me, I'd call the dr's office and ask why he needed it.
I still have the lab slip for Haydn, but I don't know that I'll do it. I skipped it for Ellawyn after going in and them not being able to find a vein and telling us we needed to come back, because really, if they don't get it the first time, it's awful.
