What do you get for the First Birthday of your baby who, first of all, has no idea what a birthday really even is? And second of all, has two older siblings and their accompanying mounds of toys from years and years of birthdays and Christmases?
Damon's birthday is this month. I have no idea what to get for him. In general, this is a hard age to shop for. Regardless of that, we have all the toys from when Natalie and Kelton were both one-year-olds. We have some toys that Damon hasn't even seen yet because they have been put away to save space. I'm not so sure I want any more toys around. I sometimes feel like our house must look like a Toys R Us outlet. It seems like we already have all of the good toys out there. But, we can't NOT give our son a present for his very first birthday just because he has the unfortunate disadvantage of not being one of the first children in the family.
What do we do!? Anyone have any ideas of any kind? Just look at that little face up there--he's too cute not to get anything for his birthday!

YOu of course buy a t-shirt Or pj's, (useful) then a rubber ball (toy) and a cake for him to have his picture in front of and call it good. I have found myself wrapping up things that we haven't played with for quite sometime.."cheap mother in da house!" whoop whoop!!
He IS too cute--that's a great picture!
As for ideas:
-Both of our boys got a tonka dump truck when they were one--I've never found them online, but we got them at toy's-r-us for less than $10. They're red and yellow plastic and surprisingly durable. The boys loved putting a pillow on top of the truck and would lay down, pushing themselves around the house with their feet--in fact, they still do occasionaly. :) I consider them a great buy since they were inexpensive and still get used 7+ years later.
-new bath toys (Kira got some for Christmas when she was almost one and I didn't feel bad throwing out the old ones that needed to go anyways...)
-if you don't want more things in the house, you could go with a special truck or sand toys that stay in the garage (or trunk) to use at the park
-books are another option since they don't take up much room. I think Trevor may have been two when we discovered the Cool Cars series by Tony Mitton. (there are books about planes, submarines, tractors and all kinds of vehicles and I didn't mind reading them over and over). He may not be into them yet, but they might be fun down the road.--or get a lift-the-flap or activity book for your church diaper bag
-a pack of jumbo first crayons
-and a little boy can never have too many balls (though a mom can...)
Good luck! I can't believe he's almost one already!
Bubbles! That is what both our other two got for number one. And bath toys. We don't really spend much on birthdays, though.
We got Haydn a Sing-a-ma-jig after he went crazy fro one at the store.
Also, you could just wrap up some boxes. I know with our girls at that age that was the best part. Although Damon may think you're giving him paper to eat.
i'm not sure if you already have one but we got parker a small generic version of a magna doodle (its great for church & they can scribble/draw with out worrying about crayons or markers getting on things other than paper) and bubbles are soo great and sooo cheap. he has a little gun that shoots bubbles out (i think it was in the dollar section at wal mart)
